Group: Shoot Three Review

This shoot occurred on the same day as the London shoot, and was in the wider area of Orpington. This shoot was also focused solely on catching filler shots, performance shots, and action for the third narrative line. This shoot again was split into two parts, the inside location of Harry's Flat, and outside in Halstead.

JACK: On this shoot Luca had perhaps more significance in organising the content of what was shot in regards to ensuring actors were in the right costume  and that they knew what to say - as this shoot contained some dialogue. Whilst Luca was doing this, I was dressing the set in a sense: making sure that everything was coherent with the mise-en-scene and atmosphere that we were trying to create. Whilst I didn't want to move too much - because this was a home environment: meaning it both was already accurate for what we were trying to portray, but also it almost wasn't mine to move in a sense - I ensured everything was set up in a camera friendly environment. I also made the call to leave the TV on in the background of the shot, as I felt this helped to illustrate a more realistic and life-like situation, whilst it also didn't particularly detract from the action we were trying to show: this was an initial worry. Again, I took the main responsibilities of camera work, again because Luca was in a lot of the shots. This involved having the ultimate decision of framing and movement - whilst Luca did influence these and I feel they were collaborative choices. Furthermore, I had to ensure that the movement was fluid in following the character - as if it was too shaky or too static the shot would not feel right.

LUCA: In this shoot I took a lead role in organising the whole crew. I made sure that all the actors knew what was expected of them and made sure they were all in costume and set. As I was performing in some of the action, Jack was primarily doing the majority of the filming, however prepared each set before filming, ensuring the mise-en-scene was accurate. I also gave Jack directions on camera movement and framing.
