Group: Shoot One Review

Our first shoot was on location at Billy's - one of our actors - house, where we filmed aspects of both the Rachel and Marcus narrative lines. This wasn't a particularly successful shoot due to limited amount of usable footage. This was due to several factors - for example Billy's pets who were very playful and consistently found a way into shot: meaning they are unusable. Also there were time restrictions and so it generally felt a little rushed, meaning the quality was compromised. However, whilst this day was perhaps unsuccessful in the sense we didn't get a huge amount of footage, it was fairly successful because of the fact our actors gained clarity of what was required of them and we also could create a more in depth plan of our next shoot on the location - having seen and filmed in the space. We also had the opportunity to test shots and get used to the camera we are using.

JACK:
On this shoot I had the primary role of working behind the camera, which including the framing and composition of shots - applying the rule of thirds to some action. This was the sequence in which we establish Rachel's character in the background whilst our performer is in the same room lip syncing. Moreover this included setting up the tripod and ensuring any movement was minimal and intentional. Another aspect that I influenced was briefing the actors to a degree, so that they were aware of what they actually had to do in the shots. Moreover, due to the limited success of the shoot - Luca and I were able to take shots of each room in the house and use for analysis for a deeper location reccie on set, with everything in place. LUCA:
On this shoot I had two main roles; performing within the action and ensuring that the actors involved were fully informed on what was expected of them and what they had to do throughout the shoot. I took a lead role in organising all members of the shoot to be on-time and prepared before we reached our filming location. I also had a creative input as to positioning of actors and props on set, ensuring that the mise-en-scene of each frame was perfect.
