Group: Shoot Four and Five Reviews

LUCA: In one shoot we filmed the action for the first narrative line involving the character Rachel. I had several roles in the shoot - firstly I was performing in front of the camera once again as my role as the star in our music video. I was then also in charge of ensuring our actress was dressed appropriately for her role and positioned correctly for each shot. I took a lead role in time management and also assisted Jack with some of filming, however in this particular shoot he took the lead role in filming. In the second shoot..........

JACK: I ensured that on both shoots we filmed footage from a range of interesting angles. We filmed the same action in a variety of places - which ensured that the best framing was selected and technical excellence can be achieved. Luca and I both collaborated with ideas, also suggesting alternate views; in the case of a disagreement, we filmed both so that we can see which sequence is better aesthetically and contextually with the rest of the action. Luca and myself both provided props that were integral to the action, including some items of clothing. Moreover, I considered lighting in the frame, ensuring that the intended mood was created.

Group: Casting Update

Due to practicality issues and the fact we saw a re-shoot was necessary, we were required to change two of our actors and also the location of the action. This means that JD Ward and Billy Jones - filming in Billy's house - have been changed to Portia Chapman and Eliot Abrahams - filming in their houses respectively. This may not be an ideal situation however we have ensured that both the new cast and locations fit our overall theme for the music video. Photos of the new actors are below:

Group: Mag Ad Progression

Above is a brief range of different edits for our magazine advertisement. We decided that this was the best shot to use for several reasons: it's not just a screen shot from footage; the location and costume reinforces metanarrative; and the lines on the brick work all lead into the artist - drawing attention to them. Moreover we felt that the relatively blank sky is an ideal place to put the words of our advert - as they wouldn't intrude on anything significant and further leads the reading into the artist.
A mistake was noticed in the above images, in that I accidently wrote the single name "Save it for another day" instead of the album name, "Food for thought"

Group: Preliminary Digipak

Hawk House are an artist on Virgin's EMI label, hence the addition of this logo on the back pane: to further adhere to the artist's image. The cover hasn't been shot yet, however it has been decided. It will be fairly concept based, and almost a piece where you are to make your own opinion of meaning (although we do have a clear message within it) - whilst being unconventional of the genre as a whole, this will again be conventional to the artist. The image will be a photograph will be two hands depicting an apparent drug deal, with a suspicious bag being exchanged for cash; the bag will contain a flower and not drugs, this is symbolic of hope and peace and reinforces the exploration of misconceptions and potential of lower classes in particular, but people generally. The pane with a picture of the artist alone isn't a confirmed picture, however we have decided that this should this.
There is a slight mistake in that the single name we are doing for the video doesn't appear in the album track list.

JS: Reflection on photoshoot

I feel that our photoshoot was both testing and successful. In unfortunate weather conditions we produced some photos that we can still use, however a lot also came out blurry - because of difficulty with the camera focusing with heavy rain falling and the lens becoming wet. Even these blurry photos aren't rendered useless, because it almost takes away a degree of personality with faces not focused - this means you are left to location, costume, and props to take understanding from our inner sleeve, yet I feel that this almost progressive for our concept: as it means the more significant things are more prevalent. My role was in bringing the props and also in ensuring the location was suitable, I also had to organise the people who were in the shoot and confirm logistics wise it was achievable. We captured a range of shots that means, despite the weather conditions leading to some slightly poor pictures, we have a lot of options to choose from - and a re-shoot is unlikely necessary.

Group: Contact sheet of Digipak Inner Sleeve Shoot

As you can see, we considered a huge range of shots, angles, and mise-en-scene in the bid for a successful and technically excellent inner sleeve on the digipak. They all are fairly similar: all in the same location. This contextualises the meaning and places it in a lower class demographic, as does the activities displayed - connoting delinquency. This is contrasted by the fact the actors are in smart clothing of nice suits and coats and smart shoes - which is almost  iconographic of higher classes and success. The overall meaning portrayed by this is that people from a range of backgrounds can still achieve the cultural goal of success - demonstrated and suggested by their suits, whilst their upbringing and background is shown through the activities and the literal background of a garage in the vicinity of an estate with high rise flats; it is ambiguous whether this success is in an academic or work environment, however the fundamental point is shown.
