JS: Initial Song Ideas

 SLAVES // HOWS AMELIA?

  •     “London” is the first word heard and it is screamed – immediately setting the scene for rebellious city boys.
  •      The genre of punk revival to a degree loads the sound with images of fashion and a lack of care for authority.
  •      Rioting on a small degree.
  •      Aggressive behaviour and vandalising activities.
  •      This could be interesting to explore as the band  is two young males from around similar parts to us.
  •      However, the fact it has these connotations of young males that are part of a subculture correlated with disregard for social harmony may pose an issue – as activities carried out in the video could well be disruptive and/or illegal.

CHET FAKER // GOLD (FLUME REWORK)

  •     Distant and action not directly related.
  •     Isolated character lip syncing.
  •     Beach setting? Standing in the shore as the tides come in, bright day time.
  •     Then when chorus drops female character introduced.
  •     Solo character becomes part of a group of friends that grows throughout video.
  •     Intercut with action of a party later that night when all is dark and neon lighted.
  •     Essentially narrative of a forlorn man on an isolated beach in the day appears lonely, but then more and more characters are introduced and the narrative shows a progression into a party at the same scene just not in chronological order.

SBTRKT FT RAURY // HIGHER

  • Sound effects at beginning set scene of dusk in countryside/forest area feel.
  • Fast paced and in depth lyrics - narrative is clear and story is told.
  • Not many characters - perhaps only following a single character.
  • Mainly filmed on handicam.
  • Mainly close up shots of protagonist - main focus.
  • Fairly dark aesthetic.
  • Slows at end - could be cut at around 3:30.
  • Chorus provides opportunity for lip syncing and performing.
  • More narrative based in verse, with a little lip syncing perhaps.
