Group: Track Choice

After taking time to evaluate our Brighton preliminary task, we have decided to change our final track idea from the 'Chance The Rapper' song to 'Hawk House - Save it For Another Day'. It was clear from the Brighton footage that it was hard to try and replicate an American setting to fit the American song. We agreed as a team that trying to make a music video for an American song would be difficult and would restrict us a lot in terms of location. Therefore we have made the decision to go for a song by the English collective called 'Hawk House'. The song is 'Save It For Another Day' - we chose this mainly because it has a clear narrative in the lyrics which we could emulate in the visuals and some interesting themes and concepts are touched upon.

INITIAL IDEAS

OVERVIEW
In the song there are three significant parts, all which display a different narrative. Because of the fact they are all seemingly isolated we are going to display them as this - with different characters and locations for each story. This may pose an issue in terms of transitions, but are initial idea is to have the stories link to each other through following one character with a track as they walk past the character from the next story - and the camera will then follow them as they cross paths. At the end of the story we have an idea that all three stories are from the same family: and so we think our final shot could be a zoom into a broken frame with a torn family photo of them inside. We realised this concept would only fulfil a narrative video, and so we would like to have a narrator kind of character, who lip syncs the song - he would be the same person throughout and appear in all the locations, and so is present to the audience but has no influence on characters: he is invisible within the action itself.

OPENING
Before the lyrics come in there is no opportunity to establish narrative or showcase performance. To conquer this we will use some establishing shots to imply a location - for example these shots would be in a London suburb, displaying a derelict place or high rise flats. This would suggest the setting in which the action takes place within.

PART ONE
A story following the character of Rachel. Rachel is a young lady who has a fairly glum life - she gets involved in drugs and has an abusive partner. Montage story with a high cutting rate. One of the shots could be her putting make up on as if to cover a black eye - the first shot would be from behind her looking into a mirror, and then the other will be a close up on her face: as if the camera is the mirror.

PART TWO
A story following the young father. We see him getting in late from a job, he is unhappy but goes to caress one of his children - a baby. He clearly has a lot on his mind. A bailiff knocks on his door, this would be someone in a high visibility jacket knocking filmed through the frosted glass. Then it is suggested he robs a bank, we obviously cannot do this but will show him preparing for it - packing a gun in a big over the shoulder bag, putting gloves on, all dressed in black, and then putting a balaclava on: this would be high cutting rate but perhaps slow motion footage to mirror tense nature.

PART THREE
A story following an adolescent child and his mother. We follow him around for a day that he should be at school for but see him skiving, walking dog, generally walking around London however this will not be boring because we will show him doing activities generally paired with antisocial behaviour, for example smoking, drinking, spray painting.
